A Christian Call to Action
Lord, whereas in our early days the problem was to make a weak union strong, today our problem is to restrain a union that is growing too strong. Lord, we know human weakness–that people are always seeking more power. We know, to, that power corrupts.
Do we have the courage to stand up against intimidation of “political correctness”? Will we educate ourselves and others?
Thomas Paine pointed out that tyranny is not easily conquered. He also said that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. It would seem he is right: what comes too easily is not highly valued! Help us respect the gift of freedom. It may have come to us today easily, but it did not come easily when it was won–it cost our forefathers! We remember You warned Israel: they did not plant the vineyards, grow the trees, build the cities they were living in. You caused them to inherit what they had not achieved in their power. Lord, neither have we. Help us appreciate the “free” gifts You give us and not hold them cheaply!
